Companies exist in a constant state of flux and re-generation as they adapt their businesses to the rapid changes in the external environment including the market, the competition, regulation, legislation, environmental changes, employment practices, management philosophy, and the internal tensions between managers asserting their views and debating the best way forward. These problems can be exacerbated in conditions that arise from business contraction, mergers and acquisitions where other significant problems can occur from the mixture of diverse cultures. Successful management of a Company is a complicated and demanding task. This true whether it is the start-up phase of company formation, the so called mature state where growth and constant improvement are the benchmarks of success, or the rescue of a company from imminent collapse.

To survive and prosper in a world teeming with first rate and constantly mutating competitors, management time must constantly be spent in examining the raison d'ętre of the company and the way in which it operates
