            Planning & Mind mapping

Intelligent planning lies at the heart of all successful endeavour. It needs to be the backbone of company thinking right from the inception of business and the building of strategy to the most detailed level of project management where proper detailed management of data and materials can be so crucial.

Planning packages of many different kinds have been available for along time through computer applications but it is knowing how to properly use them and to exploit all their potential that is so important. Relatively recent innovations such as Mind Mapping ( see detailed explanation ) are now also conventionally available in a similar way to allow managers and executives to start the process of strategic thinking by populating a clean sheet with unrestricted thoughts and logical connections and manipulating these to refine their business goals and to pursue a strategy to meet those goals.

An adage worth remembering is: “If you don’t know where you are going you are unlikely to get there. Once you know where you are going it’s best to plan a route. Once you’ve planned a route its sensible where possible, to stick with it ”

Mind mapping can be a useful first stage planning tool. There are many mind mapping tools available but they all start with a specification of a goal, a concept or an entity of some kind. The Sample Mind Map below represents the first level selection of thoughts and directions springing from an initial generic identity to define a CO2 EOR project. Below this first level there are many more levels of detail. It goes on to develop the CO2 EOR Project and can be modified or extended infinitely whilst providing message board communication facilities between collaborators anywhere in the world.
